Terms of use

The deal, in plain words. Using XPAT Ledger means accepting what is below — so it is written to be understood rather than to be impressive.

1What this is

XPAT Ledger is a planning tool for people paid in one currency and living on another. It estimates what a foreign income really becomes after transfer fees and exchange-rate spread, splits that into budget envelopes, and tracks what you spend against it.

It is free to use, and it runs in your browser on your own device.

2What this is not

It is not financial, tax, accounting or legal advice, and it is not a regulated financial service. It does not move money, hold money, or connect to your bank.

Its numbers are estimates. The fee assumptions for each transfer rail are editable starting points, not quotes — your real fees will differ and you should verify them. Exchange rates come from a public feed and may lag the market. The projections are arithmetic on the figures you supply, nothing more.

Do not rely on it alone for a decision that matters. For tax, get an accountant. For a large transfer, check the rate with the provider at the time.

3Receipt scanning

When you scan a receipt, its image is sent to a vision model to read the total. Which reader is used, and what that means for your data, is set out in the Privacy policy — please read section 2 before scanning anything sensitive.

The reading may be wrong. These models misread figures, and a misread total is a wrong number in your budget. Check the amount — the app shows it to you for exactly that reason, and you can always type it yourself.

Scanning depends on a service that may be slow, unavailable, or withdrawn. The app remains fully usable without it: every receipt can be entered by hand.

4Your data is your responsibility

Your ledger is stored on your device and nowhere else. This is deliberate, and it has a consequence you are accepting: we cannot recover your data if it is lost. Not if the phone is lost, not if the browser clears its storage, not if you clear it yourself.

Take your own backups — Settings → Your data → Back up to a file — and keep them somewhere you control. This is the only protection that exists.

5Acceptable use

Use it for its purpose. Do not attempt to break, overload or abuse the scanning service; do not use it to process material you have no right to; and do not attempt to gain access to systems behind it. The scan endpoint runs on real hardware with real limits, and abuse degrades it for everyone using it.

6No warranty, and limits

XPAT Ledger is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. It may contain errors, it may be unavailable, and features may change or be removed.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of it — including lost data, a mistaken figure, a misread receipt, or a financial decision taken on the strength of what it displayed. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case only the exclusions permitted there apply to you.

7Changes

These terms are versioned by date, shown at the top. Continuing to use the app after a change means accepting the current version. Material changes will be surfaced in the app rather than only posted here.
